The LTC391AE01 HIEE401782R0001 is a gate driver board, manufactured and designed by ABB as a part of the MVAC drive spares. 

The gate driver board is mounted on the EXU ( Excitation Unit ) swivel frame cabinet, next to the pulse amplifier interface board with a lateral connection.

It is composed of power supply unit together with power board, main circuit interface board and power module. The power supply unit requires three power boards to be used in parallel and matched to the matching board respectively during operation, and capacitors, current transformers and fan components are also required for the inverter operation. Outside the power supply unit and inverter module there is a control unit, this unit is composed of a control board and an interface board, in which the control board is the core part, the application software of the inverter and its parameters are stored here.

The function of the interface board is to be responsible for the acceptance and transmission of data and to provide the output of the control unit to the gate driver board. After receiving the signal, the gate driver board will turn the DC power of the power module into AC power, or turn AC into DC.

The gate driver generates normal thyristor trigger pulses, it has a green LED to indicate the status of the power supply and an interface to the pulse amplifier interface board.

The PAI board is capable of controlling one or two gate driver boards, pulse transformers provide electrical isolation for thyristors with different voltage potentials.
